SEMINAR: How to meet the Code for Sustainable Homes - lessons from current practice

Autumn 2010 dates to be confirmed. This event can also be requested.

1.00pm - 4.30pm - £75 plus VAT (£86.25).

All new homes will have to meet the CO2 reduction target for Code Level 3 of the Code for Sustainable Homes (25% lower than current Building Regulations) from next year onwards with a timetable of tougher targets over coming years. An increasing number of local planning authorities require new homes to achieve certain Code levels. Government funded housing already has to meet at least Code Level 3 in full and this is likely to increase in the near future. An understanding of the Code and how it can be achieved is vital if you are involved in delivering new housing. This half day seminar will provide practical and timely information on how to meet the Code which you can take away and apply to your own projects.

Show how to meet different levels of the Code based on the experience of a developer that is building one of the first Code Level 5 developments in the country.

Look at the design strategy, construction methods, materials, technologies and costs of meeting the Code.

Provide a detailed look at the Code and its various parts from an experienced Code assessor.

Set out the policy requirements regarding the Code both now and in the future.

The Speakers:

Charles Couzens is a director of developers Ecos Homes, a subsidiary company of Ecos Trust, a registered charity whose mission is to make sustainable construction the norm.

Phil Cookson is a senior environmental consultant and BRE Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor delivering Code Assessments for RSL clients in Somerset and London.

Gareth Walton is a director of Devon Sustainable Building Initiative and has extensive knowledge of sustainable construction policies at a national, regional and local level.

Homes for Good exhibition

Having held the Homes for Good exhibition for the last 6 years, many of you may be wondering where it is this year.  Some of you have been asking and, in short, the answer is that we are not running the show in 2010. Last year’s exhibition was a great success but we feel that we would like to build on this in future. Keeping the show regional and completely focussed to our aims is important for us. However, of equal importance is for us to know that we have the means to ensure the show continues to evolve and grow whilst remaining accessible for all sizes of company to attend and attracting a high quality audience. Ultimately, this is what will really help to support the South West market. So, we hope to spend some time investigating opportunities and partnerships for the future. If we have been in contact with you before about the show, we will be in contact when we are ready to roll again!  Thank you to all the companies that have supported the show over the years.
