Natural materials
Traditional housing is often based on the cheapest material not the healthiest. Ecos Homes aim to reduce the use of formaldehyde and petro-chemicals throughout their houses. Ecos use natural wool for insulation, natural fibre flooring such as Sisal or Jute, water based painted surfaces, sustainable timber from 'forest stewardship certified' sources and low pvc wiring.  Ventilation Creating efficient homes requires a reduction in air leakage, by using breathing wall technologies and controlled ventilation air quality is improved. Ventilation systems can filter the air and even use the heat of stale expelled air to pre-warm fresh air before it enters the house. Natural light This is shown to create a better environment, many artificial lights can affect concentration levels, increase fatigue, cause headaches and reduce natural hormone levels. Ecology
Ensuring development creates space for wildlife and increases the biodiversity on sites. Sedum roofs can increase on previous levels of green space.    Community Well designed communal spaces encouraging a sense of neighbourhood. Schemes located where local services can be easily used and supported. |
