The Homes for Good Exhibition is an not-for-profit event designed to show people how buildings can be designed, built, refurbished, decorated and furnished in ways that won’t cost the earth.

The event includes exhibitions, demonstrations and presentations on all aspects of sustainable building and lifestyles.

It is the ideal opportunity for businesses to market new, environmentaly-friendly products and services to the general public, building professionals and decision-makers.  It provides visitors with the chance to gain inspiration and encouragement because they can see, touch and smell the products, find out how they work, try some of them out, learn about different techniques, chat to the experts and hear about new ideas.

What is the aim of the Homes for Good Exhibition?

During the Trust's first few years, staff found they were getting increasing numbers of enquiries from home-owners, self-builders and building professionals asking for infomation on environmentaly-friendly building products and services: Where can they be purchased? Who makes them? How are they used? Which is best?  We were also being sent increasing amounts of information on businesses in the region - from new businesses eager to get a foothold in the market of sustainable building to large, more established businesses that were improving their environmental crudentials.

It was clear that there was a need to bring all these organisations and potential customers together under one roof to allow them to talk face-to-face and build confidence in the use of these products and services.

Charles Couzens (STSD Executive Director) quotes:

“There is a real and urgent need to change the way we live and work if the environment and a future quality of life is to be protected.

“What would be really good is that people who come to the exhibition change the way they undertake house renovation or actually use sustainable materials to decorate and also become more energy efficient.

“It’s about raising awareness.  Once people understand why they should change the way they have always done something, they are usually motivated to do it – but we have to make it easy for that to happen.

“That’s where the Homes for Good Exhibition comes in, because a lot of the products people will see at the exhibition still can’t be found in the High Street shops.  That has to change, and the change can be consumer driven.”

The Homes for Good 'Fair' was first launched in February 2004 in Taunton and moved to Exeter in February 2005.  Both events have attracted an average of 2,000 visitors per day and we are grateful for the support that we have received from our sponsors and exhibitors.  We are also very grateful to Kevin McCloud whose support has been valuable at raising the profile of the exhibition in its early years.

This years guest at the weekend is the 'Queen of Green' herself - Penney Poyzer, presenter of BBC2's No Waste Like Home.

"As owner of an ecohome, I am very excited to be coming to Homes for Good 2006. It is so refreshing that the event is growing stronger by the year and that more and more members of the public are being drawn to sustainable living. I'm looking forward to visiting every stand and finding out about new products, techniques and services and to meeting as many visitors as I can"
